Located at the end of the Tancredo Neves Avenue, 10 km from Foz de Iguaçu downtown, the Itaipu Hydroelectric is the result of the hard work of two Nations: Brazil and Paraguay.The word Itaipu derives from the Tupi-Guarani language and means “Stone that sings”. Its building up is one of the largest works in history, beneficiating Paraguay and the south, southeast and center-west regions of Brazil.
With a capacity of 12.600.000 Kw/h, Itaipu posses 18 units with a nominal power of 700.000 Kw/h each. Nine units generate 50 Hz, that is the frequency used in Paraguay and the other nine generate 60 Hz, which is the unified frequency in the entire Brazil. During the week there are regular visits with duration of around 2hrs30minutes
