City Tour Farther, on the Flood

Excursions

The southern area of the city still gives off a flavour of Tango that one must know how to discover. This tour’s object is to make you know several emblematic places, all of them related to the popular music of the southern part of the city.

The circuit spans the quarters of La Boca, Barracas, Pompeya, Boedo, San Cristóbal and San Telmo. This walk, right after you get out of your hotel, will take you to the café “Margot”, built in 1904 at the corner of Boedo and San Ignacio, and the café “Homero Manzi”, both in the quarter of Boedo. The next point is the “Mano Blanca” Museum, at the corner of Centenera and Tabaré, and then the “Bar El Chino”, sponsored by actor José Sacristán, and the historical “Puente Alsina” (Alsina Bridge).

The tour then moves on to Barracas, where you can visit the “Pasaje Juan Darquier” (Juan Darquier Lane) and the “Paseo Bardi” (Bardi Walk) just in front of H. Irigoyen train Station (formerly Barracas al Sur), where famous movies such as “Sur” and “Gatica” were filmed. There is also the Terremoto Soccer Club and the bar “Tres Esquinas”, as well as Polaco Goyeneche’s “Bar Sur”. Before leaving Barracas you can visit the “Bar El Progreso” and the “Pasaje Lanín”.

In La Boca you can walk along Magallanes street from number 800, thus visiting the “Centro Cultural de los Artistas” (Artists’ Cultural Center), two bars and the “Conventillo de Arte de Marjan Grum” (Marjan Grum Artists’ Lodging) in the corner of Garibaldi and Pasaje Caminito (Caminito Lane).

At the end of the tour you will be at the heart of San Cristóbal, in the bar “El Miramar”, where those who want to can taste the typical vermouth with garnitures, a tradition that has almost disappeared from the city nowadays.

Please remind: Since on certain days some of these places do not open, the tour must adapt to this circumstance.
